Publishing The Great Paradigm Shift

"When opportunity comes, it's too late to prepare." ~ John Wooten

by M. LeMont

So you think you got it going on? She's sitting alone slowly sipping a glass of wine, and you say that's my kind of woman.
"Please, let me introduce myself." You pull out one of your finest cards fitted for the occasion.
"Here's my business card.  I'm the CEO...."
She abruptly  interrupts: "How can I find your book?"
"What book?"
"You don't have an E-book! What kind of businessman are you?"

Oh well, that's what you can soon expect.  We live in a digital age where everyone will soon have a book published.  Where's yours?

I was about to publish my fifth book and thought how fortunate I am to have discovered self-publishing.  Here's how it happened.

It was Thanksgiving Day, and we were driving to New Orleans to visit family. I was reading an article by Jeff Bezos about Amazon Kindle's self-publishing. It led me to an excellent book that explained it all:    How To Become an Amazon #1 Bestselling Author and Make Money by Hille, Oli

The author said you probably had a book already written that you could publish.  Well, I had written one book and three were unfinished. And a year later, here I am publishing my 5th book with 100,000+ Twitter Followers.

Now mark my words, one-day self-publishing will be so popular that when you meet someone, instead of asking what your Facebook page is, they'll ask "So what's the name of your book?  What! You don't have a book on Amazon?"

Wikipedia defines Paradigm in the following words "a typical example or pattern of something."

Thomas Kuhn said "Paradigm was a set of practices that describe a scientific meaning for a particular period."

So when that pattern is interrupted, it can cause a radical disturbance or revolution of a product, industry or behavioral change. A paradigm shift creates income opportunities for people that recognize the shift. Thus, the difference between the have's and have not's of the world.

However, most people are poor because they are unaware of the changes that are occurring around them and when they finally realize the opportunity it's too late to prepare.

The definition of "POOR"- Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly.

Once every 25 years, an opportunity comes around that changes an industry or the way consumers think. This very moment there are three Paradigm shifts that are affecting the Global economic system.

Electronic Book Publishing or E-Books

Mobile Devices

Social Media

In 2007 Amazon introduced its electronic book reader Kindle and Apple arrived on the scene with the iPad.

Paradigm shifts spread fast when the IDEAS behind them are "Free."

The shift to reading books, newspapers, and magazines on the Kindle, iPads, Smart Phones and other electronic devices have become the new standard.

In July 2010, Amazon announced that e-book sales for Kindle had exceeded hardcover books for the first time. The CEO Jeffrey Bezos said, the shift at Amazon is "astonishing when you consider that we’ve been selling hardcover books for 15 years and Kindle books for 33 months."

The Revolution has begun and it's wiping out traditional methods of publishing.

Some of the advantages of self publishing on Kindle are

Instant Exposure

No Publisher

No Publishing delays

Bigger Audience

Instant Gratification

Easy to Use

No upfront fees

The New York Times reported how some Wall Street analysts view the market.  One tech expert said that 821 million smart or mobile devices were sold in 2012, up by 50% from the previous year.

Mary Meeker, another tech analyst, reported that by the middle of 2013, the number of mobile devices in use would surpass PC's.

When you combine the two paradigms in which e-books have exceeded, i.e. hardcover books falling short of book sales in comparison to self published book sales on Kindle and more mobile devices being sold than PC's, consumers will need content to read... I mean lots of content.

“If there was anything the human race had a sufficiency of, a sufficiency and a surfeit, it was books,” the New Yorker writer Joseph Mitchell wrote in 1964. He reflected on “the cataracts of books, the Niagaras of books, the rushing rivers of books, the oceans of books, the tons and truckloads and trainloads of books that were pouring off the presses of the world at that moment,” regretting that so few would be “worth picking up and looking at, let alone reading.”

Since then things have picked up drastically. Experts agree that the imbalance is an opportunity for authors and would-be authors to get their names out there; to Amazon, having 60 million customers that visit their website every month is a huge advantage.

Amazon's self-publishing technology has made publishing a breeze and the traditional book publishing will never be the same. There is no cost to self-publish and it requires no technical skills.

Amazon self-publishing is a paradigm shift that creates opportunity for people around the globe.  All you need is the eyes to see it.

Now the year is 2015 and soon everyone will publish a book. It will be as a common as asking someone to "Like" your Facebook page or "follow me on Twitter".

The market is already flooded with authors, making it even more difficult to sell books. If you want to be a successful author then you must build a huge Twitter platform where less than 1% of Twitter users claim title to; (100,000, 500,000, 1 million followers.) And you must do it fast.  You must do it now before it becomes popular.  Even if you don't have a book, you need to build a huge Twitter platform.   Anyone that says they don't want 100,000, 500,000), or one million followers is full of "shit" and can't be taken seriously.

Today sixty percent of all users access the internet using their Smartphone or tablet and not their desktop; and a majority of them spend most of their social activity on social media.

You can't afford to miss this opportunity! The paradigm shift will open up opportunities for everyone, the same way that it did for social media companies like Facebook and Twitter.
